GOD'S COMMANDMENTS ARE NOT BURDENSOME

LIVING PRAISE CHAPEL NANAIMO
BIBLE STUDY
TOPIC: GOD'S COMMANDMENTS ARE NOT BURDENSOME
Text: 1 John 5:3
Introduction: Our God is the true embodiment of love for all mankind. It is because of His love for man that of all things He created, he decided to create man in His own image and likeness, and then gave man dominion over everything else (Gen 1:26). Owing to His continuous love for man and following the fall of the first man, God sent His one and only beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to re-unite us with Him (John 3:16).
Today’s bible study is a call for self-examination for every believer and also an alert to be serious with God and in our journey to eternity in Christ. None of the laws/commands should be too hard to obey considering that God gave us His all first. There should not be any excuses from Christians.
Bible Text: 1 John 5:3 - For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. Matt 22:37-39 – Love for God and our neighbour
Are God’s commandments burdensome? To the flesh, they are burdensome – Romans 8:7-8, Romans 7:18. With the Holy Spirit, the commandments are not burdensome – Eze 36:27, John 14:26, Gal 5:16, Gal 5:22-23
TRUE MEASUREMENT OF OUR LOVE FOR GOD
There is no doubt that God loves us because He gave us His all (John 15:13) and in return He demands that we love Him back. It is therefore not out of place that in this message, God is giving us His standard of measurement of our love for Him. We shall be reviewing some true measurements of our love for God.
- Loving God and thy neighbour –Luke 10:27, Rev 14:7, 1 John 3:17, 1 John 4:12,
- Entrusting God with all your heart: One of the true measurements of our love for God is centred on our hearts. Mark 12:30, Matt 6:21, Prov. 3:5, Prov. 23:26, Psalm 119:11,
- Total obedience and absolute faith in God: One of the greatest expectations of every Christian as a proof of his sonship is to continue to obey all God’s commandments. Make yourself available for the master’s use - Matt 25:23, Phil 2:8-14, Matt 8:10, Gen 22:2
- Devoting to Righteousness and rejecting sin: Our desire to pursue righteousness and to continue to live a righteous life is a genuine way to really measure our love for God. Fleeing from sin: Gen 39:12, 2 Tim 2:22, 1 Peter 2:11, 1 John 2:15, Psalm 119:162-163, Psalm 97:10
Conclusion: the journey to eternity is not fought by flesh and blood but essentially by the Holy Spirit. We must as believers stop playing games with God’s love and embrace Him wholehearted by retuning His love for us through absolute obedience, faith and righteousness.
