The Fear of the Lord

There is a fear where you are afraid and tremble in the presence of the Almighty God which could be a result of disobedience to God’s laws. eccl 12:13, John 15:14
In this presentation, our focus is on the kind of fear of God which we ought to have as believers.
1. WHAT IS THE FEAR OF THE LORD?
a. It is wisdom - Psa. 111:10, prov 3:8,
b. It is a treasure - Prov. 15:16, psalms 1:3
c. It is the fountain of life - Prov. 14:27, bse that is key to us being sustained in God unto the promise of eternity in Heaven
d. It endures forever - Psa. 19:9
e. It is godly - Heb. 12:28
f. It is a hatred of evil - Prov.8:13
2. WHAT SHOULD CAUSE US TO FEAR GOD?
a. The holiness of God causes us to fear Him.
It is necessary for the perfectness of holiness in our Christian life. Rev. 15:4, 1 Pet 1:13-17
b. The greatness of God Deut.10:12-17
c. The goodness of God causes us to fear Him 1 Sam 12:24
d. The forgiveness of God. Rom 6:22-23, Rom 9:15 I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy upon

3. RESULTS OF FEARING THE LORD
a. It brings pleasure to the Lord - Psa. 147:11. Our sacrifice/service becomes acceptable and leasing unto God as in Rom 12:1
b. It brings the mercy of the Lord - Psa. 103:17
c. It brings blessings - Psa. 112:1
d. It supersedes the fear of man - Isaiah 8:12-13
e. It brings answered prayers - Psa. 145:19, obedience is the key to all our blessings
f. It brings life Prov. 10:27 obedience will lead to eternal life John 15:14
obedience in full to the end is to truly fear God 1 Sam 15:22, Matt 24:13
CONCLUSION:
The fear of the Lord is necessary to worship God. It is necessary in our service unto Him. It is necessary to keep us from sin. Let us pray that God will teach us the fear of Him. Psa. 5:7, Psa. 2:11, Exod. 20:20, Psa. 86:11
