Topic: The Prosperous Soul
Text: 3 John 1-8
INTRODUCTION
Two types of prosperity:
*Material Prosperity: that you may prosper and be in health.
*Spiritual Prosperity: Just as your soul prospers.
These two statements are not necessarily connected. In our last study series, we learned that
material prosperity should not be the priority focus of truly Heaven bound Christians. Luke 18:25
As we sincerely sit to learn the whole truth of the Gospel of Christ in this study, may the Holy
Spirit of God illuminate our hearts in Jesus' name.
1.The Prosperous Soul
*The Prosperous soul is a Christian that walks in the truth and imitates godly examples.
3 John 4, 2 Pet. 3:18, Psalms 119:9-11
*A Christian who lives the whole truth of the Gospel of Christ. A Christian who hears and does
Christ’s commands. 3 John 2-3, Col. 3:16, John 14:21-23, 1 John 3:24, James 1:22-25,
John 13:17
2.Material prosperity is not ungodly.
That above all things you may prosper and be in health. 3 John 2
Jesus taught that we should ask God for our daily bread and needs.
Matt 6:11,31-33,Psa 144:12-15
Our desire for material prosperity must not be for personal gain, says the Scriptures. James 4:2-3
3.Spiritual prosperity is eternal.
The spiritual is always more urgent and important than the physical.
While we may certainly pray for our material prosperity, we must not lose sight of the fact that our
greatest need is spiritual prosperity which lasts forever.
Mark. 8:36, 1 Tim. 6:17-21, 1 Tim. 6:8-12
CONCLUSION:
3 John 2 was written to a faithful Christian leader, Gaius. He was described as a Christian who
has chosen to walk in the apostolic truth. As heaven bound Christians, we must imitate examples
like him and may the Holy Spirit strengthen and keep us all in Him in Jesus name. Heb 12:1
