TOPIC: THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
INTRODUCTION: The Holy Spirit is a Divine personality who has a definite function in the world.
The Holy Spirit has been very active from the beginning. He had a come and go ministry in the Old Testament Gen 1:1-2, Judges 6:34, 1 Sam. 16:14, Judges 11:29, Psa. 51:11. At Pentecost, He came to dwell in believers and abide in the living Church of Jesus Christ John 14:16, Acts 2:1-4.
1.HE WAS ACTIVE IN CREATION
During the creation of heaven and the earth, the Spirit went into action brooding over the surface of the earth. The Spirit creates and preserves that which has been created. Gen 1:1-2, Job 33:4, Eccl 12:7
2.IN RELATION TO THE UNBELIEVERS
*He is the One that convinces the world of sin because they do not believe in Jesus Christ. Jn 15:22, Jn 16:9
*He convinces the world of righteousness because Christ was completely righteous. John 16:10
*He convinces the world of judgement for Christ has already been judged at Calvary. Jn 16:11, Matt 12:18
*He operates on the conscience of men through the Word of God. Acts 2:36-38
3.HOLY SPIRIT AND THE SCRIPTURES.
*The Holy Spirit is the Author of the Scriptures 2 Pet 1:20-21. He is also the interpreter of the Scriptures.
Jn 16:13, 1 Cor 2:10-13
*He is the One that brings back to our memory verses of the Scripture in the hour of need.
Jn 14:26, Luke 12:11-12
4.HOLY SPIRIT AND JESUS CHRIST
*Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, literally born of the Spirit. Luke 1:35
*He was led of the Spirit into the wilderness after His baptism to be tested. Matt 4:1
*Jesus was anointed by the Spirit for service. Luke 4:18, Acts 10:38
*Jesus was crucified in the power of the Spirit. Heb 9:14
*Jesus resurrected from the grave by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rom 8:11
*Jesus instructed His disciples and the Church though the Spirit. Acts 1:2, Acts 2:33
*Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to the believers. Luke 24:49, John 16:7
5.HOLY SPIRIT AND BELIEVERS
*He seals the believer as a pledge for future glory. 2 Cor. 1:22, Eph. 1:13-14
*He fills the believer with Himself to live a victorious life. Acts 1:4-8, Eph. 5:18
*He gives believer power to obey the truth irrespective of cost. 1 Pet. 1:22
*He brings to remembrance the things that we have faithfully learned. John 14:26
*He takes the Word of God and teaches the believer. John 14:26, 1 Cor. 2:13
*He empowers us to impart truth to others. Acts 1:8, 1 Cor. 2:1-4, 1Thess.1:5
*He inspires worship and adoration of God Himself. John 4:23-24, Phil 3:3
CONCLUSION: The list of the activity of the Holy Spirit is inexhaustible. Let us praise the Lord for the faithful ministry of the Holy Spirit and the gifts He graciously gave us. Now we can see that no True believer can walk the walk of Jesus in full without Him. May the Holy Spirit continually dwell and fill us with Himself for God’s glory in Jesus name.
